Where is the Keyboard Mapping document ?
Upon unzip the file "Ratne.zip" read the Users' Guide (PDF format) and
follow the instructions until you install the fonts. Users' Guide also
tells about keyboard mapping. Ratne Font is needed to view Assamese in
this this file; so install the fonts. In case of some PC you might have
to re-boot the PC after you install the fonts.
Would like to know how I can use Ratne font to
send e-mails to my friends ?
Right now you can send (receive) e-mails to your friends (from your
friends) using Ratne Internet provided your friends also use Ratne Internet
in their computer(s). If your friend does not have Ratne Internet font-set
feel free to ask download & install the same in the machine. Just for
email purposes, Ratne Internet license fee is free..
You need to use an email editor that supports both MIME and HTML, to
write emails using Ratne Script in the languages such as Assamese, Baro,
Bengali, Kamrupiya and Manipuri.
Outlook Express, Udora, and Microsoft Exchange are the three email editors
that support MIME and HTML format. Choose any of these editors and set
the editor to HTML as the default.
Suppose that you have chosen Outlook Express. On top right side of the
Outlook Express window, click on "Tools". A pull down menu appears, choose
"Options". A small window appears; on top of this window click on "Send"
then set both "Mail Sending Format" and "News Sending Format" to HTML.
You are now ready to write emails using Ratne Script.
To write an email, click on "New Mail" icon located on top left side
of the Outlook Express window. Just like MS Word, you can choose Ratne
Internet to write your email and thus send accordingly.
If you use Netscape Communicator to read/write emails you can do the
same setting.
At present, most Web based email service providers support MIME and
HTML format. As a result, any email written using Ratne Script can be viewed
by any recipients with Web based email IDs, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Hotvoice,
etc. However, none of these email service providers support HTML featured
email editor(s). For this reason, you cannot write emails using Ratne Script
with their editors, but the following is an alternative.
Choose Netscape Communicator to read your Web based email. Notice the
HTML editor "icon" on the bottom right side of the Netscape Communicator
window. Use this editor to write your email in HTML format and save the
same in a folder. Then send the saved file as the attach using the "File
Attached" feature of the Web based email editor.
I know once you wrote in Assam Net with an example
JPG file explaining how to use Ratne Fonts to write HTML files for Web
application. I had deleted the e-mail by mistake. Would you tell briefly
how I could do so and what I should do to put the same file in the Web
?
Answer to first inquiry: yes I once posted a note on Assam Net telling
how to edit/write HTML file for Web. Then I used an expensive professional
Web Editor that has the feature to choose fonts from a pull down menu,
but your best option will be to use Microsoft Word 97 and write a DOC file
and then save the same as HTML file. You can also do the same with Netscape
HTML editor.
Answer to second inquiry: to view your Assamese Web page the viewers
must have Ratne fonts locally available in her/his computers. Right now
two ways exist to help others to view your Web pages. One is they must
install the same Ratne fonts in their computers, while the other is that
you integrate Dynamic Ratne fonts to each page in your Website.
What do you mean by Alt+0+number ? Do you mean
Alt, shift +, 0, shift +, number ?
In your keyboard both left and right side of space-bar there is a key
marked "Alt". In your right hand side of the key there are number of buttons
marked with from 0, 1, 2, 3, ... 9. Suppose that the number you want to
type for a "juktyakshar" is 241. Now open a Microsoft Word doc, then choose
Aadarsh Ratne font from the pull down menu. Press the button "Alt", then
using your other hand press 0241 in the right side number-buttons while
you keep pressing "Alt" button. Upon finishing typing 0241 you can release
"Alt" button. This is what is called "Alt+0+number" operation for Windows
ANSII characters (make sure that you turn on the "Num Lock" button located
in your keyboard; this is important).
I could not see the "daari" I don't know why
?
The "daari" is mapped to "|" character located on top of "enter" button.
Please make a note that you do not hit "space bar" between the last word
of the sentence and the "daari". You need to obey this rule to keep the
auto-format feature perfectly working. My suggestion would be to get a
print out of the Users' Guide from the link Ratne
Script Users' Guide and use as the reference while typing.
I do not understand the local mapping please
help me ?
Local mapping or Ratne Mapping for Microsoft Word is now well described
in Ratne Script
Users' Guide.
Some of the alphabets that I typed using Ratne
Fonts automatically transposes to different alphabets what should I do
?
Please turn off any Auto Correction as well as First Alphabet Uppercase
feature in your Word Doc. To do so click on Insert menu and from the pull-down
menu choose Symbol and then a window will pop-out with all Ratne fonts.
Click on AutoCorrect button and un-select all features. Note: If you do
not see Ratne fonts in the pop-out window select Ratne font in this window
in the font manu (or any Ratne family font if you have installed more then
one such as Ratne Internet, Ratne New, Ratne Narrow, Jagatguru, Bangla
Ratne, Manipuri Ratne).
How do I write HTML files using Aadarsha Ratne
Internet font-set ?
First download Aadarsha Ratne Internet font-set and install in your
PC. If you have any HTML editor that supports the "choice of font faces"
then you choose Ratne Internet in the editor and write the HTML pages accordingly.
Otherwise you can write your document using MS Word and save the file
in HTML format. Netscape also supports HTML editor. Note that you can also
write both Assamese and English in the same HTML file.
What exactly is Dynamic Ratne font ? Now we will
be able to read Assamese written in Ratne font from any machine, right
?
The Dynamic Ratne is the dynamic version of Aadarsha Ratne script. Any
dynamic font-set is the font-set that is not available statically, i.e.,
not installed in your machine. The font-set is supplied real-time as you
click on a link that supports it, so the term "dynamic". Now we will be
able to read Assamese written in Ratne font from any machine, provided
the pages support Dynamic Ratne script.
[PFR (portable fonts' repository/resources) is the technical name for
dynamic font-set; the font-set that can be ported to a port of a computer
from its repository/resources. Telephone hook in your computer is a serial
port but printer hook is in general a parallel port. So the URL hard disk
from where Dynamic RatneScripts' page you click to read is what is repository/resource.]
Can we also write with Dynamic Ratne, or is
it only for reading ?
Yes we cam write, but we need embedded editor for this purpose. As you
can write using static RatneScript same is readable using dynamic or vice-versa.
Where can I get Dynamic Ratne Script ? How can
I write a Webpage using Dynamic Ratne script ?
You need to order for Dynamic Ratne script form Ratne Research. Then
upload the same to a folder "pfrfile" in your Website; choose the folder
location in the root. Then you need to write your HTML pages using Aadarsha
Ratne Internet font set. Use a TXT editor to edit each HTML file, and add
the following codes in the header, i.e., in between "<head> </head>"
and save the file.
<head>
<link rel=fontdef src="../pfrfile/ratne.pfr">
<script SRC="http://www.bitstream.com/wfplayer/tdserver.js"
TYPE="text/javascript">
</script>
</link>
</head>
Upload the HTML file to your Webpage. This page supports Dynamic Ratne
script and can be viewed from any machine.
If a user uses a browser that does not support Dynamic script then s(he)
should download Ratne Internet and install the same, click to download
Ratne Internet font-set.
Can we write Assamese PDF file using Acrobat
Reader and can the same file be used in Website ?
You need Acrobat Writer to create PDF file. Install Acrobat Writer in
your PC or MAC. Now use any editor such as MS Word, Power Point or any
HTML editor to write your document using Aadarsha Ratne Internet font set.
Then print your document in PDF format to a file (say filename.pdf). This
file is what is your document in PDF format. You now can read this PDF
file using Acrobat Reader. IF you upload "filename.pdf" to your Website
viewers can read this file with the help of Acrobat Reader.
Can we organize a Website both in Assamese and
English ?
Yes we can organize Website that supports both English and Assamese.
I would suggest to use to separate folders for both Assamese and English
pages. Read some of the FAQs on how to write Assamese HTML pages using
Aadarsha Ratne script. Here you may use Dynamic Ratne script as well. Your
"index.html" file sits in the root of your Website which will direct the
viewers either Assamese or English.
While I use "copy & paste" feature in some
cases I see that Ratne Script transposes to Latin ?
You will have this problem if you use editors developed by different
vendors for the copy and paste operations. For example if you copy from
MS Word and paste in Outlook Express you will not see this problem. But
if you copy the same from MS Word and paste it to Netscape HTML editor
this problem will occur. Your best choice will be to save the MS Word document
in HTML format and open/edit with Netscape HTML editor.
How can I send a Assamese FAX using Ratne Script
?
First you write your FAX in MS Word using Ratne Script. Now you can
get a printout of the document and use a FAX machine to send the FAX. The
other option is to use the same PC to send the FAX. Here from the "Start"
menu go to "Programs" and go to "Accessories" then select FAX. Follow the
instructions and attach you MS Word document and send the FAX. Prior to
doing so you need to connect your PC to a telephone line and prepare your
PC for FAX handling.
What am I doing wrong ? I have Macro Utility
installed but I am unable to type juktyakshara using Outlook Express.
The Macro Utility works only with MS Word. For this reason you cannot
type juktyakshar using Outlook Express. You might like to write emails
using hashanta for juktyakshara.
The other option is to write emails in MS Word then cut and pest the
same to Outlook Express. I am also working on a generic typing utility
once it is done one should be able to type juktyakshara using any editors.
How can I install the Macro Utility in my PC
?
The Macro Utility that you got from Ratne Research works with MS Word
only.
There is a plan to develop a generic short-cut utility that will support
any Editor such as Page Maker, Frame Maker, MS Word, Outlook Express, Eudora,
Netscape, etc.
You need to copy the file "Normal.dot" to "Templates" folder. Make sure
that you back up the original "Normal.dot" file or rename it in the same
folder to "Normal.dot.old". Following method allows installing "Normal.dot".
If for some reason "Normal.dot" file is not found in "Templates" folder
search for "Normal.dot" using "Start" menu and "Find" then go to the right
folder.
Double click on "My Computer"; double click on "drive C:\"; double click
on "Program Files" ; double click on "Microsoft Office"; double click on
"Templates".
Now that you are in a folder where a file called "Normal.dot" exist.
Rename this folder to "Normal_old.dot".
Now copy the "Normal.dot" file to the same folder. You are done.
How can I get "Jagatguru" script ?

One got to be a member of a Vaishnava community and may not worship/perform
idol/life-sacrifice on the name of spirituality.

If I write HTML for my Webs Site with this font,
should the visitor of my Web Site require ARIN font installed in his computer
to see the text ?
The answer is YES. Aadarsha Ratne Internet (ARIN) is designed using
same principle as Times New Roman or Ariel font faces. As a result, a viewers
must need to install ARIN in his/her computer.
However, if you equip your Web Site with dynamic ARIN any user can view
your site from any computer, without installing ARIN, and you still need
to write your Web Site using ARIN. There are FAQs above on how to equip
your Web Site with dynamic ARIN. In brief, I will have to design dynamic
ARIN that will embed your Web Site and you need to save this dynamic font
file in your Web Site. There is a fee to be paied for this purpose.
Do you have English manual for using ARIN font
?
YEA, it is included in Ratne.zip file.
